I hate to do this, but I have to practice for my promotion of Yesterday Road, when it’s released next month. The clock, she is ticking!
Anyway, I need to appeal to my vast readership now and ask for some Amazon love. If 6 people buy Our Children Are Not Our Children today, I’ll have doubled my sales! (You can do the math…) Now, maybe 6 seems like a little, or like a lot. It’s all relative. But since the thing only costs 99 cents, surely 6 Brave Ones who happen by today can take a moment to click and purchase.

Haha, no problem, you owe me now, buddy:) Hey! Just have to “share,” hate that word, but! Listen to this! Brief update, fyi. Am dealing with a severe case of shock: “The Unbearable Lightness of Prunes” give-away? Story is (as of 7 pm EST 9/19) ranked #10 on Amazon’s Literary Fiction “bestseller” (what a misnomer) list! Yes, #10! Two thousand downloads in less than 48 hours. Certainly this is a mistake, a glitch in their system, a fluke? I expect an email from them momentarily apprising me of this, reducing me to a puddle of tears.
Holy crap! No. 10? As in Downing Street? More like Easy Street! May at least 10% of your new downloaders put some real dough on the table and buy your non-free books!

Hi Terry, Thanks for popping in! You ask a monumental question that is plaguing authors right now, thanks to the explosion of free ebooks. It has changed the equation in the same way that cheap or free songs have changed the music business.
That said, since this “book” is a 20-page collection of short short stories, I priced it at the lowest price Amazon allows. If you think about it, that comes in at 5 cents a page, which happens to be a typical price for a traditionally published novel running 300 pages: 5 cents x 300 = $15.00.
Just curious, after all that: have you bought the book yet? 😉 It’s only 99 cents.

Done! At least the buying part. It’ll be a bit before I get a chance to read and review, with my crazy schedule right now, but I’m excited to see how you’re using the ebook format to get your literary fiction into the world. I’m so new to that part of the publishing business, and I don’t tend to read a lot of ebooks, but I could be converted if more literary writers like you put books out in that format.

I’m very queasy about this format for literary fiction, but as a way of testing the waters, this process seems easy and inexpensive. All we can do is try!

That’s why I think what you’re doing is so fascinating, and potentially trailblazing. I plan to do ebooks for all my small press releases, but I have no idea if they’ll sell. My hope is that they’ll be out there for people who see our publicity and want to try a book but aren’t ready to commit to a paperback.
It should be interesting. I, for one, am opting for the ebook-only option right now because I don’t think I can place the book in bookstores — at least not beyond my own little town. However, we’ll see how the ebook does, and I might have to rethink…
Well I’ll just have to skip my daily indulgence of Fancy feast, but when a friend is in need, drastic action is required. Purchased! Will try to get a review done soon.
