Kevin Brennan Writes About What It's Like

The beguiling strandbeest

I ran across this the other day in a piece about how “nothing is really alive.” I guess that’s debatable, but this clip is strangely moving because these man-made creatures display all the characteristics of life — including confusion and frustration. They’re not inanimate, yet they’re not exactly animate either because they require a man to pull them along the strand.

The music is perfect, Khachaturian’s “Spartacus.”

Kind of creepy in a fun sort of way. Looks like something that should be in a Beetles music video.

True. There’s also a kind of sadness about them. They seem lost. 😢

I hope none of them are strays. My house is full 😉

They don’t seem like they’d eat very much… Take up a lot of space, though.

Indeed, I’d need a ranch in Montana to keep them 🙂
