Kevin Brennan Writes About What It's Like

The saddest antelope

Sad antelope

First prize to you if you can guess why this antelope, who I met on a recent domestic safari, is so verklempt. Here’s a clue: it’s not because he’s upset that the U.S. got knocked out of the World Cup.

It’s love was hit by a vehicle. I’ve seen sand hill cranes mourn by their mates for weeks.

I hope it’s something nice like he’s getting cupcakes later 🙂 Or, they produce more eye goo when it’s sunny?

Interesting guesses, everyone. The real reason this antelope is so weepy is that she has a bad habit of eating the poison oak that’s ubiquitous in the Northern California hills. Since the animals at this park are essentially “free range,” they can eat anything they want, even if it makes their eyes burn. Kind of like me and jalapeño peppers…

    Yes, I am free range!

Looks like John Howell came closest with, “Allergies.” Good guess, John!
