Kevin Brennan Writes About What It's Like

Fahey’s fingers

If you like finger-picking guitar, you know about John Fahey. His compositions are so true to the traditional mode that it’s hard to tell them from the ancient airs and ballads. He also studied philosophy. Quite the well-rounded string plucker, eh? He died far too young (and I say that because I’m only four years younger than he was!), which makes us wonder what he might have been able to give us had he lived to full ripeness.

Also, isn’t it nice that the Tubes can transport us back to 1969?

These folks with the finger picking turn the guitar into a whole new instrument. Pretty inlays and headstock.

Yeah, I love that guitar. He has a very calm attack too… and stealing from Holst, no less!

Ahh, nice. I love finger-picking on the guitar, and I love to finger-pick (no, I’m nowhere near this level of playing, but it’s still fun). Great video.
