Since I’m still buzzing from my evening with Sir Paul, it seems meet to give him one more moment on the What The Hell stage.
This is the isolated vocal track from “Helter Skelter,” in which you’ll hear much more going on vocally than you ever could have guessed, listening to the full mix. Paul’s voice is like a ground glass chaser to a napalm cocktail. But just as interesting are the backup harmonies provided by John and George, and probably Paul too. You don’t need the shrieking guitar on this cut to have a startling experience.
Sure, there’s been some spectacular screaming in rock n’ roll since 1968, but this is a fine example of what “singing your face off” really means.
