Kevin Brennan Writes About What It's Like

Peeking through the Hedges

Michael Hedges, that is… What an innovative guitar player he was, back in the ’80s and ’90s. I was seriously taken by him at the time and wanted to emulate him, but I couldn’t figure out what exotic tunings he used. He could make one guitar sound like four guitars and a glockenspiel. Accompanied by a djembe.

He died in a car crash along Highway 128, a road I’ve traversed many times on our way up to Mendocino. A real shame. He had a huge talent, a terrific voice, and he seemed to be enjoying himself up there.
