Did you know that John Faulkner had a brother who was also a fiction writer?
I tell you, it’s always a bit unseemly when an older brother like William has such resentment for his successful younger sibling (“railroad employee, highway engineer, pilot” and writer) that he has to go and win the Nobel Prize in Literature just to prove a point.
Interestingly, John’s last book was a memoir about Bill, but he died shortly after finishing it — just a year after his brother died. Sounds like these two never stopped competing…
