Kevin Brennan Writes About What It's Like

Willie Dixon is n-n-n-nervous

What a line-up, featuring Willie Dixon, Memphis Slim, T-Bone Walker, and Jump Jackson. You can imagine Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey hearing this in ’62 and saying, “Oi, mate. What if we were to do that stuttering fing in a rock n’ roll choon? P-p-p-people try to p-p-p-put me d-d-d-down…”

You watch TV today, with its 450 channels and wireless streaming, and you ask, Where are the best musicians on the planet? Why aren’t they on my giant screen? Instead we get celebrity chefs and Fox News. Makes me n-n-n-nervous!

By the way, if you missed my own contribution to the blues the other day, you can listen rye cheer:

Made me want to hear him without the stuttering, I’ll admit. Sounds sick, good production on that and warm. Weren’t The Who doing that stuttering thing to affect an amphetamine stance, of the Mods? Or do I have like a shred of fact that I’m propping up to fiction now.

That could be. I always just assume the Brits couldn’t get enough of the old blues men and wanted to sound like ’em. Maybe the Mod stuff was bigger than the blues to Pete n’ Roger, though…
