Just came to my attention that Oyster Books is shutting its virtual doors soon. You might remember that Oyster set itself up as the “Netflix of books,” offering readers an all-you-can-eat buffet for one low-low price. Well, I guess interest in the model was less than hoped, or, as happens so often in this business, Amazon swiped the idea and pretty much destroyed the competition.
I was never very fond of the idea, and as far as I know nobody ever read Yesterday Road via Oyster.
We’ll see where the formerly simple process of buying and reading books goes next…
