Kevin Brennan Writes About What It's Like

A Fascinating journey

Maybe this will make you want to read Fascination.

Turns out this country is full of near-secret pinball parlors, where aficionados of the old-school amusement sneak in for a fix.

Well, Atlas Obscura has put together a spectacular road trip that hits 37 of our finest pinball arcades. You can start in a Brooklyn laundromat and make your way clockwise or counterclockwise, hitting as many as you can in your allotted time. You’ll even find yourself in many of the same locales as Sally and Clive in their search for Fascination parlors — Arizona, L.A., San Francisco, Seattle, Somewhere In The Midwest.

The metaphor’s the same. Fascination/pinball. A beautiful thing that fell out of favor but that makes the new stuff look dull in comparison. Kind of like Sally herself.

It’s been a long time since I’ve played pinball. Maybe a drive down to Alameda is in order.

Oh, and you can grab a copy of Fascination here for only $2.99.

Gotta get workin’ on my supple wrists (a la Tommy) if I’m gonna try pinball again!

If you make it as far as Motor City in your pinball travels, I’ll be able to wave across the border at ya!
