The Disappointed Housewife launches a week from today, and boy is the entire staff excited!
True, at the moment I’m the entire staff, but me, myself, and I are all thrilled that this new outlet for truly creative writing is coming to fruition. Ever since the idea of it came to me in a dream (I kid you not), I’ve been on it like a sneer on Elvis.
For opening day, it looks like I’ll have two essays on board, five pieces of fiction, six poems, and three items in Faux Forms & Genres. You’ll also get your first look at the mission statement and guidelines for submitting your own work, which I hope you’ll do sooner than later. Leaf through the site and see if you have anything that might fit the ilk.
One thing I’m going to encourage is for readers to show their appreciation to the writers by tipping them via PayPal or Google Pay (or whatever other means there are for sending small amounts of money). Authors will have the opportunity to publish their PayPal email address, and, through the “send money” tool, you can shoot them a couple of bucks just to say “hey, thanks for writing this!” Writers won’t have to participate, but they’re welcome to, and I’ll be interested to see what the response is all around.
In a way it’s a little like busking. A lot of people walk right by, but now and then someone throws a five in your guitar case.
By the way, I’ve set up a new Twitter account for The Disappointed Housewife. Visit @offbeatlit and follow, share, and retweet to help with the launch.
Meanwhile, if you’d like your work included in the opening day lineup, send it over right away to thedisappointedhousewife(at)gmail(dot)com. (No attachments please. Paste it in the email.) I’ll do my best to read it before the big day.
Thanks in advance for your support. It’s going to get interesting!
I’m getting all excited and goose-bumpy now!!!
Woo hoo!
I like your idea of readers paying a little through PayPal or Google Pay. One of the things I’d like to do is set up a site where I can publish things and ask for contributions that way as a means to go direct to readers and cut out the middle man (cough, cough, Amazon, cough, cough).
Right. Amazon’s working out so well for us indies … 😐
Can’t wait for the launch, Kevin! Best of luck.
Thanks, Phillip! I hope a lot of readers want what The Housewife is serving up.
It’s cool you’re starting this. Good luck with it!
Thanks, Carrie! I hope readers find plenty of stuff to like there … 🤠
I’m psyched!
Woo hoo! 🤡
