I’m really pleased this morning to announce that my new novel, The Prospect, is available for pre-order on Amazon. Believe it or not, this title will set you back a mere 99 cents!
I’m starting out cheap because I hope to snag an EReader News Today promo for launch week, which will be the first week of May. Regular price, after the deal, will be $4.99.
This one’s a book about baseball—and life—but it has a twist that I think will appeal to a wide audience:
What if a woman got a chance to play Major League Baseball?
Here’s the jacket copy:
When seasoned baseball scout, Bud Esterhaus, recruits phenom pitcher, Joe Carpenter, for the El Centro Sand Cats, he thinks he might be able to wind down his career with a patina of quality. But as Joe climbs through the minor league ranks and attracts the attention of the L.A. Dodgers, Bud is stunned to discover that the budding star is actually a girl—a she-nom—and the whole plan will come crashing down if he can’t cook up a way to keep her identity hidden from the testosterone-steeped world of professional baseball. Joe Carpenter is really Jo Carpenter, and Bud thinks she’s good enough to be the first woman to make The Show.
In The Prospect, Kevin Brennan (author of Parts Unknown—William Morrow/HarperCollins) shows us one way—with a little Shakespearean gender bending—a woman could find herself playing in Major League Baseball. The Natural meets Bull Durham meets A League of Their Own in this warm girl-powered story.
Hey, it’s a feelgood baseball novel. Coming along at a time when baseball needs all the help it can get. And we all need more feelgood right about now too.
Pre-order today and receive your Kindle book automatically on May 1.
And if you’d be willing to prepare a review to post during launch week (which would be incredibly helpful!) I can get you an advance copy right away. Contact me directly at kevinbrennan520(at)gmail(dot)com.
Batter up!
Sounds like a winner! I just pre-ordered and would be happy to review it the book, Kevin.
Thank you, Lori! Shoot me your email addy and I’ll send you the advance copy. 🙏

When I clicked on the link, it took me to the pre-order page, which says you already have six ratings for the book, but when I scrolled down to the reviews, they were all for Parts Unknown.
Yeah, I wondered about that, too…
I noticed that yesterday and put a request in to KDP to fix it.
They’ve unlinked Parts Unknown. This is what happens when you let robots do all the work!
AI is not my friend.
Bull Durham meets Bosom Buddies!
I don’t want Tom Hanks in the movie … 😉
Every baseball movie needs Jimmy Dugan!
Congratulations Kevin!
Thanks, Bill! Baseball’s back in more ways than one.
Nice. I finished Underworld not long ago and like what he did with that there. But man he’s inhuman. I can’t think too hard about his writing capabilities or I’ll never write again myself.
I know what you mean. It’s hard to imagine what it’s like inside his head.
I think in a way I’m glad to be average, given the choice between me and him.
Congratulations! This is great news!
I wanted to order the print edition, but when I click on paperback on Amazon I’m taken to the paperback listing for Parts Unknown! Will this be available in print at the same time it’s published in mobi?
How weird. There will be a paperback–I’m still working on it–but there shouldn’t be a link on the book page yet. Apparently some robot has pulled Parts Unknown details and attached them to the new title.
Very strange! I will wait for the print copy. Congratulations, again!
I made my preorder! So you want reviews to run the first week of May? That should be doable if you send me an advance copy 🙂

Congratulations! Just pre-ordered my copy!
Thanks so much, Deniz!
Great idea for a book. I think we are getting really close to having a woman play in the Major Leagues. It will happen soon. Maybe just like your book. Good luck with your sales.
Much appreciated, Steven! Yes, I think it’ll happen eventually, but MLB is a real glacier.
